Not sure how all this ties in to security, maybe someone can help me clear this up. I also noticed the variables "private-key" and "certificate", which were both set to 246 zeros. Now I'm no security expert, but it seems kinda stupid to set a private key to the same value of a public key, being as if it's known that the public key and private key are the same it's trivial to intercept and decrypt traffic on the network because the public key is. I also noticed some interesting variables seemingly related to encryption keys: "public-dsa-syst" and "public-dsa-resc", which were both set to the same value(246 characters). Here's where the "I'm not really a security expert" part comes in. I had no idea ,but from what I can tell my router has a zigbee module, which apparently the zigbee security model is not very secure. I issued "pp show" command and got a printout of the current system variable settings and found out some interesting info. Started playing around with the commands and found the pp command which is apparently for the "permanent parameters sub-system". I also found out that while booting, if I pressed space at the right time I could launch a U-Boot command prompt. By pressing any key I was able to launch into CFE and get a prompt where I could issue some low level commands for manipulating the NV memory, which was kinda cool.

Seeing as I didn't have any reason to put the newer router to use, I decided to crack it open and experiment with it. So not wanting to use a router that was essentially a security black-box, I flashed Open-WRT to my old Netgear router and it worked like a charm, haven't had a problem since. Well, the new router was garbage and was causing even more connectivity issues than the Netgear router, not only that but it didn't offer much in the way of user configuration.

They said that the old Netgear router I was using was to blame and that they would be sending a new router free of charge. Everything worked fine for a while, until I started having connectivity issues and I gave them a call. Just recently, after moving, I gave Charter a call so I could get internet service setup.
